Circle Theatre Stages JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, Now thru 5/24

Starting off the Main Stage season in May of 2014 is the rock musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, running May 8 through 24. This rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice is a thought-provoking and emotional dramatization of Christ's final days. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.

The Circle Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar will be directed and choreographed by Jolene Frankey. Frankey will be joined by music director Wright McCargar. The design team features lighting designer Mark Neumann, scenic designer Don Wilson, costume designer Val Fischer, hair & make up designer Jeffrey Williams, sound designer Roy Wallace and properties designer Jennifer Smith.

The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar features Matt Tepper as Jesus of Nazareth, Stephen Grey as Judas Iscariot, Molly Jones as Mary Magdalene, G.M. Bud Thompson as Caiaphas, Bart Sumner as King Herod, Jon Clausen as Pontius Pilate, Brian Lauer as Peter, Preston Mulligan as Simon Zealotes and Jason Morrison as Annas.

Performances will be held at the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center. Performances are today, May 8 through 24. Curtain for performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30PM. Sunday performances begin at 5:00PM. Tickets are $27 and can be purchased by calling the Circle Theatre box office at 616.456.6656 or online at www.circletheatre.org. The box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5:00PM and from 3:00PM to curtain on days of performances.

2014 will mark Circle Theatre's 62nd year of producing plays and musicals for West Michigan audiences. Other productions in the 2014 season include the comedies Don't Dress For Dinner and One Man Two Guvnors, the hilarious musical comedy, Monty Python's Spamalot and the musical thriller Carrie The Musical. Circle also offers the children's story A Sleeping Beauty Somewhere In Time as part of their Family Magic Circle Series. Circle's 2014 Summer Concert Series will perform on select Monday evenings at 7:00PM and will feature the iconic music of artists Billy Joel & Elton John (PianoMen), The Eagles (Take It To The Limit), Simon & Garfunkel (Feelin' Groovy) and the musical stories of Harry Chapin (Keep the Change).The theatre first produced shows at the Rowe Hotel before moving to the Pantlind Hotel and the pavilion in John Ball Park. Circle Theatre now shares a performing arts center with Aquinas College and the Catholic Secondary Schools at the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center.
