Join Circle Theatre as we celebrate the musical masterpieces of the Grammy and Academy Award-winning composer, Stephen Schwartz.
Over the past sixty-two years, Circle Theatre has presented some of the most exciting, groundbreaking, and poignant musicals in Grand Rapids theatre history. On April 18 and 19, 2014, Circle Theatre is proud to celebrate the music of Stephen Schwartz. Come hear Circle's brightest stars performing songs from some of Schwartz's finest Broadway musicals and feature films. Featuring music from iconic Broadway shows like Children of Eden, Godspell, Pippin, Wicked and Working and from movies like Enchanted and The Prince of Egypt.
The evening will begin with a gathering in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center featuring hors d'oeuvres and cocktails compliments of West Michigan Caterer.
The Circle Celebrates concert will be directed by Scott Patrick Bell. Bell's previous directorial credits at Circle Theatre include the concerts Let It Be, The Music of Webber & Rice, Men of Motown, The Music of Woodstock and The Music of Queen and the Circle shows The Wedding Singer, Little Shop of Horrors and Altar Boyz. The design team features lighting designer Catherine Marlett Dreher, and sound designer Sam Johnson.
The cast of Circle Celebrates: The Music of Stephen Schwartz features the amazing vocal talents of Scott Patrick Bell, Maddie Blyvis, Kyle Burton Black, Jane DeYoung, Jenny Fischer, Stephen Grey, Charles Hutchins, Molly Jones, Kyle Jurassic, RuthAnn Molenaar, Jeremiah Postma and Noddea Skidmore.
Performances will be held at the Aquinas College Performing Arts Center tonight, April 18 and Saturday, April 19, reception beginning at 7:00pm, with a curtain time of 7:30pm. Tickets are $35 for the General Public, $30 for Circle Theatre Season Ticket Holders and $30 for groups of 10 or more. 2014 will mark Circle Theatre's 62nd year of producing plays and musicals for West Michigan audiences. Productions in the 2014 season include the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar, the comedies Don't Dress For Dinner and One Man Two Guvnors, the hilarious musical comedy, Monty Python's Spamalot and the musical thriller Carrie The Musical. Circle also offers the children's story A Sleeping Beauty Somewhere In Time as part of their Children's Magic Circle Series. Circle's 2014 Summer Concert Series will perform on select Monday evenings at 7:00PM and will feature the iconic music of artists Billy Joel & Elton John (PIANOMEN), The Eagles (TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT), Simon & Garfunkel (FEELIN' GROOVY) and the musical stories of Harry Chapin (KEEP THE CHANGE). The theatre first produced work at the Rowe Hotel before moving to the Pantlind Hotel and the pavilion in John Ball Park. Circle Theatre now shares a 400-seat thrust theatre with Aquinas College and the Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools at the Aquinas Performing Arts Center.
