Rock and roll returns to the Detroit Riverfront this summer for the annual Chevrolet Rockin' on the Riverfront summer concert series. Once again, the lineup is sure to satisfy classic rock fans who look forward to this annual event.
Kicking off Friday, July 11, the Chevrolet Rockin' on the Riverfront concert series will offer six free consecutive Friday evenings of rock and roll fun. Located in the heart of the city, between the GM Renaissance Center and Detroit River, the event has become a summer destination for dining and entertainment in Detroit.
In partnership with Detroit's #1 for Classic Rock 94.7 WCSX-FM, the Chevrolet Rockin' on the Riverfront will amaze rock audiences with Friday night shows from 8-10 p.m. July 11 through Aug. 15.
This year's scheduled lineup includes:
"There's nothing better than an evening of music in Detroit Rock City," said Trudi Daniels, morning host at WCSX. "Fans who attend Rockin' on the Riverfront this year will celebrate the summer with live music and hits they remember in the iconic setting between the GM Renaissance Center and the Detroit River."
Admission to the concerts is always free and no tickets are necessary. Viewing space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, but outside food, beverages and coolers are not permitted. In addition, boaters on the Detroit River are welcome to anchor near the riverfront and enjoy the shows from the water.
Andiamo Detroit Riverfront will provide refreshments and food concessions at several locations across the plaza. Andiamo Detroit Riverfront and Joe Muer Seafood will accept dinner reservations before and after the concert and both restaurants offer outdoor patios overlooking the Detroit River and the Chevrolet Rockin' on the Riverfront stage.
The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is the official hotel of the Chevrolet Rockin' on the Riverfront concert series and is located adjacent to center stage. Make a night out of your visit downtown and stay in one of the newly renovated guestrooms so it's just a quick elevator ride home from the concert. New this year, fans are invited to help select the opening bands during the "Rockin' Wars." Now through June 20, bands will "battle it out" for the opportunity to open for event headliners. Fans can watch videos of the contestants on www.wcsx.com and vote for their favorite artists. The top three contestants will have the opportunity to rock out on the riverfront stage.
