Cast Announced For THE LARAMIE PROJECT At The Sauk Image

The Sauk, Hillsdale County's community theatre, is thrilled to announce the cast for the upcoming production of "The Laramie Project." The play will be presented for four performances only, March 28-31.

In October 1998, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a breathtaking collage of these interviews that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable. This production does contain adult language.

The Sauk cast consists of Pat Bogusz, James Brandon, Allison Cleveland, Barbara Cliffe-Miller, Bruce Crews, Summer Housler, Andrea Ortell, Brendan Pratt and Ben Schmidt. Each actor plays multiple characters in the play. The production is directed by Jennifer Wagler with stage management by Michele Harmon. The design team includes Mary Skupinski (costumes), Tracy McCullough (lights) and MJ Dulmage (sound).

Performances are at 8 p.m. March 28-30 and at 3 p.m. on March 31. All performances take place at the Sauk Theatre, 240 E. Chicago St. in Jonesville. All tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased at www.thesauk.org or by calling 517-849-9100. The March 28 performance is a "Pay What You Can" preview. Preview tickets are not sold in advance.
This production is sponsored by Mark and Susan Pedrick. The 2019 season is sponsored by Expressions Photography & Design (expressions.photography). The Sauk is also supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment of the Arts.
