CMAP's 2017 Outdoor Summer Series includes an original performance by Bread & Puppet Theater, a commission by Black & Brown Theatre, a PuppetSlam filled with Detroit artists and more.
The Outdoor Summer Series will once again be staging free family-friendly and contemporary performance works in CMAP's outdoor space, 2221 Carpenter St, between Dequindre and Goddard, furthering their mission of providing performing arts experiences to Detroit residents. Now in its third year, the 'Series' was started in 2015 as part of the Carpenter Exchange programming and included performances with local and national artists.
The 2017 'Series' Line Up Includes:
May 17, 18 & 19 at 7:00pm - Bread and Puppet Theater's An Insurrection Mass With Funeral March for a Rotten Idea
During a short residency at CMAP, nationally renowned Bread & Puppet Theater will work with local community members to generate scenes for this large-scale interactive puppet performance in which a rotten idea is given an eulogy and then buried during a non-religious "Mass" complemented by readings, testimonials, songs and a fiddle sermon.
All performances are free and open to the public, however donations are welcomed. Some outdoor seating will be provided, but audience members are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Seating is first come, first served.
CMAP (Carrie Morris Arts Production) is dedicated to providing a forum for contemporary puppetry, multimedia performance and artistic exploration in Detroit.
