On Thursday, May 28, 2015 Bay City Players community theatre was presented with a check for $22,000 from the Bay Area Community Foundation (BACF) endowment fund comprising the awards from three grants. The check was presented by Lisa Cleland of BACF.
The first grant, for $1,000, came from the Civic League of Bay County Endowment Fund and was awarded to Bay City Players' youth program "Stages of Discovery," a series of workshops held each summer to help local children develop theatre performance and technical skills. The second award, for $5,000, came from the Youth Advisory Fund and will be used for rehearsal room improvements, such as a sound system, new dance flooring and mirrors. The third grant, for $16,000, was from the Community Initiative Fund, and will be used for extensive lighting enhancements in the auditorium.
"We couldn't be more appreciative," said Bay City Players treasurer Tracy Teich. "As Bay City Players nears its centennial in 2017, being able to upgrade and maintain our facility to continue to serve our community is a high priority for us. These funds will allow Players to do just that."
The Bay Area Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses and organizations to create permanent endowment funds. The mission of the BACF is to fulfill a wide array of donors' charitable wishes throughout Bay and Arenac Counties by building permanent endowment funds and serving as a leader for community improvement through effective grant making.
Bay City Players is a non-profit community theatre run by volunteers who are committed to offering exciting, intimate and relevant theatre experiences for the Great Lakes Bay region.
