"Come down peace, come down night, cover over Oya girl, make her world alright"

IN THE RED AND BROWN WATER is a "fast and loose play" that centers around Oya and the community that surrounds, challenges and supports her through tough choices between dreams of escape and realities of responsibility. Oya's story is an intoxicating one of a young girl thrust into womanhood and her subsequent fall into the murky waters of life.

Told through the converging lenses of traditional Yoruban culture and pre-Katrina rural Louisiana, In the Red and Brown Water follows Oya, a promising young track star, as she is forced into difficult decisions far beyond her years. This beautifully lyrical play explores the voices of a community and the individuals within it as they invite us into their world to not only watch but be a part of Oya's journey through maturity.
