The original play concerns the life of Lee Harvey Oswald and covers the time period from when he met his wife Marina in Minsk USSR, to the moment when he assassinated President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.

Basement Arts is collaborating with the dramatist by doing a staged reading of this draft, which will be filmed and sent to him. A staged reading has minimal lights and sound, only a few rehearsals and the actors will have their scripts in hand.

A note from Director Gillian Eaton...
"The audience is vital at this stage of development for their constructive critical response, which will be helpful to the dramatist in the development of the play. The dramatist will make changes to the play and hopefully give us another crack at a new draft at a later date.

This sort of collaboration with a major dramatist is unusual, and so is the timing of the play in regards to its subject matter. This December will be the 50th of the assassination."

Constructive criticism and feedback regarding the script will be collected after the production during the talk-back and on the Facebook Event of the reading.

THE OPPORTUNIST features...

Senior BFA Performance student Elliot Cruz as Lee Harvey Oswald
Senior BFA Performance student Kendra Williams as Marina Oswald

The reading is stage managed by Kayleigh Lehman and directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre, Gillian Eaton.
