BWW Reviews: THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW Is An Electrifying Good Time

The Rocky Horror Show at the Macomb Music Theatre is a fun time with a talented cast and great interpretation of the cult classic show! The engrossing show is energetic, entertaining, and electrifying from start to finish.

Jackson McLaskey as the lead of Frank N Furter is commanding while on stage. He demands to be looked at and has an incredible singing voice to go along with it. McLaskey's vocals really shine during "Sweet Transvestite," "I Can Make You a Man," and "I'm Going Home." Marcus Laban and Jacque Fenton play the other leads of Brad and Janet respectively. Laban does a superb job as the endearing and conservative Brad. He stands out during "Dammit Janet" and does a great job of transforming his character throughout the show. Fenton is a little girl with a big voice. Her Janet is cute and racy at the same time especially during "Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me." The pair have a great chemistry throughout the show and work well off one another, most notably in their duets of "Over at the Frankenstein Place" and "Super Heroes." Eric Niece is Rocky and does not disappoint in any way. He has the chiseled look expected of the role, but also has a fantastic singing voice that especially stands out in "The Sword of Damocles."

Siblings Riff Raff and Magenta are played by Gannon Styles and Amelia Gillis who both bring creepiness and strong vocals to their respective roles. Styles' menacing stage presence is only out shown by his powerful voice as Riff Raff. Gillis is fierce as Magenta with her impressive voice and sultry stage presence. They both work well together and demand attention that is well deserved. The Usherette Trixie, played by Bridget Leary, has a fabulous voice when she opens the show with "Science Fiction/Double Feature." She uses the whole stage and her strong voice to draw the audience in and welcome them to the story that is about unfold. Jacqueline Piche is sweet as Columbia and shows her dancing skills throughout the show. Eddie and Dr. Scott are both played by Jose Cabrera who is comedic on stage. David Schoen plays the creepy Narrator and does a great job engaging the crowd in the story. The cast is rounded out by the eerie Phantoms played by George Liebau, Hope Morawa, and Alyssa Pajakowski.

John Forlini did a wonderful job directing the production. The minimalistic approach and use of the cast as scenery really comes across well throughout it. From start to finish, it flowed nicely from one scene to the next and kept the energy building.

The entire show is worth seeing, but the floor show number is definitely one of the highlights of the show and worth the wait until the end. McLaskey, Laban, Fenton, Niece, and Piche are fantastic in it. Attend as a long time fan of Rocky Horror or as a virgin and either way, it will be an electrifying good time!
