Awaken Your Imagination With The Detroit Mercy Theatre Company's 48th Season

The Detroit Mercy Theatre Company (DMTC) announces an ambitious 48th season. Its 2018-2019 season is composed of six projects with two world premieres, two Michigan premieres and a cult classic musical that is sure to awaken your imagination. Performed at The Marlene Boll Theatre at the Boll Family Y.M.C.A., tickets for season 48 will go on sale May 1, 2018, at www.DetroitMercyArts.com.

Preview 48 will be a one night only celebration as we introduce the 2018-2019 theatre season. The evening will feature scenes from each project and main stage production while highlighting performances from DMTC's company members. Join us after the performance for a dessert reception in the theatre. Preview 48 will occur on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at 7:30 pm.

Wittenberg (Michigan Premiere) by David Davalos and directed byArthur J. Beer, Ph. D. It's October 1517, Hamlet, a student at Germany's University of Wittenberg, is caught amid a escalating debate between Martin Luther and Doctor Faustus. It's faith vs. reason...with some incidental whimsy, quirky comedy, and a bit of tennis on the side. Wittenberg runs nine performances Sept. 28 - Oct. 14, 2018.

War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast (Michigan Premiere) by Joe Landry and directed by Andrew Papa. The play celebrates the 80th anniversary of Orson Welle's 1938 radio adaptation that threw humanity into chaos when aliens made landfall on earth. This radio-play-within-a-radio-play is a thrilling homage to the form's golden age and a timely reminder of what fear can do to a society. War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast runs seven performances Nov. 30 - Dec. 9, 2018

American Privilege: an Unheard Voices Theatre Project (World Premiere) conceived and directed by Damian Torres-Botello S.J. This theatrical event will use experience around privilege and oppression as a window to gain insight into how American privilege systemically affects us all. This highly physical and movement based production will be composed by members of the Detroit Mercy Theatre Company in collaboration with our Detroit community. American Privilege: an Unheard Voices Theatre Project will run three performances Feb. 1-3, 2019.

A Thousand Miles to Freedom (World Premiere) written and directed by Arthur J. Beer, Ph. D. Inspired by the true story of William and Ellen Craft, this Romeo and Juliet inspired romance takes place in the Underground Railroad. This one night only workshop event will be performed for free on the Detroit Mercy McNichols campus in late February 2019.

Young Frankenstein with book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, music and lyrics by Mel Brooks, directed by Greg Grobis with music direction by Dan Greig. This monster musical comedy is an adaption of Mel Brooks' legendary cult classic film. Following the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family's estate in Transylvania. Watch as hilarity abounds when his science experiment escapes and a monster chase begins. With such memorable tunes as "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' on the Ritz," Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment that runs nine performances March 29 - April 14, 2019.

Flexible season ticket packages include one ticket to Wittenberg, War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast, American Privilege: an Unheard Voices Theatre Project and Young Frankenstein. Preview 48 tickets are not included in the season package. Season tickets are $75 for adults (25% savings) and $63 for seniors, faculty and staff (40% savings).

Individual general admission ticket prices for season 48 are (play/musical): $25/$30 for adults, $18/$22 seniors, faculty/staff and alumni and $10/$15 for veterans and students. Preview 48 tickets are $15 for everyone and A Thousand Miles to Freedom tickets are free. Group rates are available for all shows. Tickets go on sale on May 1, 2018 at www.DetroitMercyArts.com.

The Detroit Mercy Theatre Company's 48th season will be presented at The Marlene Boll Theatre at the Boll Family YMCA at 1401 Broadway St. Detroit, MI 48226. Main stage performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. Due to limited seating patrons are encouraged to secure their tickets early.

The DMTC Ticket Office is located in Reno Hall room 43 on the University of Detroit Mercy McNichols campus. The Ticket Office will open August 16 with office hours of Tuesdays - Fridays: Noon - 5:00 pm. To order tickets call 313-993-3270.

Established at University of Detroit Mercy in 1970, the Detroit Mercy Theatre Company is a collective of artists composed of faculty, guest artists and students that produce gritty relevant theatre in the city of Detroit.
