The theatre program at Oakland University is delighted to host guest performer Avner the Eccentric in his show "Exceptions to Gravity" set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Avner Eisenberg is a master of the art of physical comedy, an internationally-known vaudeville performer, clown, mime, juggler and sleight of hand magician. He has performed throughout the United States and made many appearances in Europe, as well as in Asia and South America.

Avner is also well known for his endearing portrayal of The Jewel, the scene-stealing holy man in the movie "The Jewel of the Nile," co-starring Michael Douglas. More information is available on Avner's website at avnertheeccentric.com.

A hit show on Broadway, "Exceptions to Gravity" defies the barriers of language and culture and has toured extensively all over the world. Avner weaves a spell of poetic simplicity in a show of hilarious predicaments. The New York Times says, "Here is what Avner the Eccentric does best: he reduces his audience to laughter and giggles and applause."

Avner the Eccentric's performance in Varner Recital Hall on the Oakland University campus is his only appearance in Michigan this year. The hall is surrounded by ample free parking. Maps are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smart phone.

Tickets are $20 general admission and $10 for students. A special two-for-one ticket is available through Living Social at tinyurl.com/OULivingSocial. Tickets also can be purchased through Star Tickets at startickets.com or via the Varner Box Office on the OU campus. Complete ticket information is available at oakland.edu/tickets.

Additional information is available on OU Music, Theatre and Dance's website at oakland.edu/mtd or by calling (248) 370-2030.
