Preparations for Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerts are underway
In March, more than 6,000 area students will participate in A2SO's Youth Concerts.
Elementary school students will experience Link Up: The Orchestra Sings on March 15. Those students have been practicing in their music classrooms for months in order to sing and play recorder along with the A2SO. They're learning all about melody as they prepare to perform Beethoven's Ode to Joy, Dvorak's New World Symphony, and Simple Gifts.
Middle school students will come to Hill Auditorium for a concert on March 21. In preparation for this experience, they have been learning about how music can paint a picture, tell a story, or evoke a feeling. The Middle school concert includes local composer Michael Schachter's Freylekhe Tanzen, Debussy's Nuages, and Stravinsky's Firebird. Local violinist, Chihiro Kakishima, will perform Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto on both concerts.
Arie Lipsky will be visiting a dozen schools in Pinckney, Ann Arbor and Brighton in the coming weeks to get students excited about the concerts.
