Actress, singer, and comedienne Hanna LoPatin will be directed by comedienne Ana Gasteyer, best known for her work on Saturday Night Live, in the one woman show, The Sound of One Hanna Clapping at The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC). Performances are August 18, 19, 20, 22 & 23 at The Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson St (see below for showtimes). The largest multi-arts Festival in North America, FringeNYC runs from August 8 – 24.
With humor and pathos, LoPatin recounts snippets of life culled from childhood ballet rehearsals to adventures in the theatre department at the University of Michigan, in this biographical sketch show. LoPatin recently completed a successful six week run performing The Sound of One Hanna Clapping at Chicago's Apollo Studio Theatre, garnering high praise from the media.
"The story of the kid who yearns to be a star is an old one…LoPatin has enough talent that she should keep hoping."
Hanna LoPatin discovered her love of comedy after enrolling in a writing class at Detroit's Second City. Since moving to Chicago in 2003, LoPatin has performed in many sketch and improv shows around the city. She has also trained and honed her talents at the Second City Conservatory, Second City Writing Program, I.O. (formerly Improv Olympic), and the Annoyance Theater.
A native of suburban Detroit, Michigan, LoPatin graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan. At U of M, LoPatin participated in the New England Literature Program where she climbed mountains, read Thoreau and Emerson, pierced her eyebrow, and discovered her song-writing skills.
Ana Gasteyer is best known for her incomparable work on Saturday Night Live. During her six year stint, she created some of the most famous SNL characters, including middle school music teacher 'Bobbie Moughan-Culp,' 'NPR radio host Margaret Jo,' 'Lilith Fair poetess Cinder Calhoun,' as well as spot-on impressions of
Martha Stewart,
Celine Dion and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Gasteyer is a well known Broadway performer who made her Broadway debut as 'Columbia' in The Rocky Horror Show. She has starred as 'Elphaba' in the hit Broadway musical
Wicked and as 'Mrs Peachum,' in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of The Threepenny Opera. Also among Gasteyer's memorable performances was her run in
Eve Ensler's acclaimed Off-Broadway hit The Vagina Monologues and as
Fanny Brice in a benefit performance of Funny Girl at The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera.
