The "Altar Boyz"-Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham-are going to save the world...and probably make you swoon in the process. Their combination of heavenly voices and spectacular dance moves pulled this fictitious boy band from small-town obscurity in Ohio to national recognition. This rockin' musical comedy joins them on the last night of their "Raise the Praise" national tour.
"Altar Boyz" runs February 8 through March 5, 2017, at Meadow Brook Theatre on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester. With a book by Kevin Del Aquila, music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker "Altar Boyz" was conceived by Mark Kessler and Ken Davenport.
"I love this show!" says Travis Walter, MBT artistic director. "It ran off-Broadway for more than 2,000 shows and the audiences loved it. The singing, dancing and the boys' stories will entertain people of all ages, from all walks of life. The energy of these five guys is just what we need in the middle of winter at Meadow Brook."
"Altar Boyz" offers three familiar and two new faces on stage. Regular Meadow Brook audiences may recognize Lucas Wells (Matthew), Ben Garrett (Mark) and Maclain Dassatti (Abraham) from last season's popular production of "Forever Plaid." Joining them are Ricky Gee (Luke) and Danny Bevins (Juan).
"Altar Boyz" is directed by Travis W. Walter, with choreography by Tyrick Wiltez Jones and music direction by Matthew Croft. Terry Carpenter is the stage manager, with set design by Brian Kessler, costumes by Corey Collins, lighting by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Mike Duncan.
Matthew Croft is also conducting the band and playing keyboard. He is joined by Sig Hepler on guitar and Nick Matthews on drums.
Tickets range from $27 to $42 and are available by calling the Meadow Brook Theatre box office at 248-377-3300 or going online at www.ticketmaster.com. Student discounts are available at the box office. Groups of eight or more should call 248-370-3316 for group pricing.
