Who Wants Cake? is set to present its production of A Bright Room Called Day, Tony Kushner's play about Germany, America, Fascism, The Right, Action, Inaction, Losing Battles, and Winning Wars.
Please Note: A Bright Room Called Day replaces the previously announced Angels in America.
A Bright Room Called Day is the haunting story of a group of artists struggling to preserve themselves in 1930s Berlin as the Weimar Republic falls to its knees. The play transcends historical drama as we witness the outpourings of a contemporary New York woman who is morally outraged at the United States government of today. The play is, like Angels in America, a genre-defying mixture of literate comedy, serious drama, and political-philosophical meditation.
Tony Kushner is the Pulitzer prize-winning author of Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes (1992). He is also the playwright of Slavs! (1994), Homebody/Kabul (2001), Caroline, or Change (2004), and The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures (2009).
The Ringwald opened the doors to their resident home in May of 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy. The Ringwald quickly became a mainstay of Detroit's theatre community.
