Meadow Brook Theatre (MBT) is excited to announce its 3rd annual "Feet for Seats," a 5K fun run/walk on the campus of Oakland University. This fundraising event has been planned to raise awareness for the professional theatre, which has been located on OU's campus since 1966. "In these tough economic times we need to rally around our local arts organizations and raise funds as well as awareness." says managing director Cheryl Marshall, "as a non-profit organization, events like Feet for Seats offer incredible support, and allow us to offer something truly great to our community."
The Annual ‘Feet for Seats 5K Fun Run/Walk' to benefit Meadow Brook Theatre has been recognized
as a quality physical activity event by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness.
The Governor's Council endorses local, regional and state events to acknowledge an organization's
ability to plan and carry out a quality event that significantly contributes to the health and well being of Michigan residents. Feet for Seats exemplifies this core value and is endorsed by the Governor's Council.
In order to become an endorsed event, an organization must complete an application form for review. Some criteria that is taken into consideration includes providing a positive, safe physical activity experience using qualified officials and benefiting a nonprofit or charitable organization.
"By endorsing local events all across the state, we hope to bring attention to the importance of physical activity and encourage our citizens to take responsibility for their health," said Marilyn Lieber, president and CEO of the Governor's Council. "These local events can have a tremendous impact on health care costs that present a significant challenge for our state's economy."
"We are honored to have been selected as an endorsed event," said Meadow Brook Theatre Artistic
Director Travis Walter. "Feet for Seats started as a small spark of an idea and quickly turned into a
fascinating community event. We thank the Governor's Council for acknowledging our efforts."
The event will take place on Sunday, August 21, 2011. Check-in begins at 8:00 am at MBT with the 5K run/walk to start at 9:00 am. After the event, participants will be treated to special performances by The Mike Duncan Band, The Peanut Gallery Players and many other family-fun surprises.
As a special bonus, participants will be able to order individual tickets to MBT's upcoming season
immediately following the walk. Single tickets won't go on sale to the general public until September 19, 2010 so participants will be getting priority seating. Information and sign up for Feet for Seats can be found at www.mbtheatre.com under the "Feet for Seats" tab.
