A.C.T. Studio Theatre is pleased to celebrate the holiday season with “Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus,” a family-friendly tale with wonderful messages about generosity, respect, and one person’s power to inspire change. It’s a thoughtful retelling of the story of a young girl who wrote a letter to The New York Sun more than 100 years ago asking if Santa Claus exists. The newspaper’s Sept. 21, 1897 response, “Is There a Santa Claus,” is perhaps the most famous editorial ever written.
Recall the plays of yesteryear when families gathered around the radio for their evening’s entertainment. A.C.T. audiences have delighted in several holiday-themed radio plays over the years. This season we chose Andrew J. Fenady’s touching radio play for family enjoyment. It’s based on the teleplay by Val De Crowl and Andrew J. Fenady.
“Yes Virginia” is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit with an old-time ‘feel good’ tale based on a true story. Adults and children eight and up will enjoy this heartwarming play about Virginia's loving family and the spirit of giving despite hardships—the essence of shared humanity.
“Virginia's” excitement about Christmas is sure to put you in a festive mood. Live shows of “Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus” will be presented at A.C.T. on Dec. 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18. Performances are Fridays at 8:00 p.m.; Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00 p.m.; Sundays at 3:00 p.m.
