One of Neil Simons lesser-known gems takes place in the West Hollywood home of Herb Tucker, a struggling Hollywood scriptwriter who is surprised when his forgotten past reappears in the form of Libby, a teenage daughter who has trekked from Brooklyn NY with dreams of movie stardom. She wants help from the father who abandoned his family in New York 16 years earlier. Thus the stage is set for one of the most tender, warm-hearted comedy-dramas Neil Simon ever wrote. I Ought to Be in Pictures debuted on Broadway in 1980 and was made into a film two years later. Director H. G. Brown said, Picturesas the cast and I call itis a gem for theatres, large and small: a sweet tale of father-daughter reconciliation, peopled by a small cast of likeable, vulnerable and funny folk. It is a comedy of relationships, newly formed, out of old wounds finally healed. It conveys hope, love and the promise that it is never too late to start anew. Containing many of Neil Simons signature touches, A.C.T.s production of I Ought to Be in Pictures stars Michael Beecher, Stevie Fondacaro and Melissa Baez. Performances are Sept. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22. Friday and Saturday showtimes are at 8:00 p.m.; Sunday matinees are at 3:00 p.m. A.C.T.
