Crowns offers a powerful glimpse into the culture and challenges faced by African Americans in the United States, told through the lives of six remarkable women, each defined and celebrated by the hats they wear.
When Yolanda’s brother is shot and killed, she is sent from her Brooklyn home to stay with her grandmother in the South. This journey becomes a personal exploration of her roots, as she gains a deeper understanding of her family’s history and heritage. Yolanda shares memories, stories, and spiritual songs with the elder women in her community. Their collective experiences — from the cotton fields to the Civil Rights Movement — paint a vivid picture of their lives within the rich tapestry of the Southern church community.
Through their wisdom, the women impart vital lessons of strength, integrity, and love, not only within their families but throughout the broader community. These lessons resonate deeply, offering an inspiring and unforgettable experience.
Get ready to be captivated by the powerful performances and stunning crowns showcased in this unique production. Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in a rich cultural experience!
