Often called one of the greatest plays ever written about women’s rights, Henrik Ibsen’s "A Doll’s House" is probably more accurately understood, as the playwright himself averred, simply as an attempt to describe humanity. Seen in this light it becomes a story of identity, of finding one’s place in the world, of reaching one’s potential. The play and its main character, Nora, remain controversial, as Ibsen takes a scalpel to the accepted norms of 19th century marriage; but his dissections are timeless and instruct us still today. Henrik Ibsen is called the Father of Modern Drama and there is no better example than "A Doll’s House" of why that title is so richly deserved.
