Florida Rep Stages Fun & Quirky Musical, [title of show], to Showcase Interns

Florida Repertory Theatre announced the opening of [title of show], the hit Off-Broadway musical about four friends writing a musical, as a showcase for its 2012 Intern Company. This limited engagement plays in the Florida Rep Studio Theatre on Apr. 15, 16, 20, and 22nd. Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for adults, and proceeds will benefit Florida Rep's Educational Programming.

[title of show] offers a humorous look a the challenges of writing a musical, and chronicles four friends on a funny and harrowing biographical journey from the page to the stage. The New York Times called [title of show] "Broadway’s most profound exercise in postmodernism…the scrappy little musical about trying to put on a scrappy little musical." Now a cult-classic among 'theatre-nerds' all over the world, [title of show] features an inventive musical score by Jeff Bowen, an intelligent and witty book by Hunter Bell, and carries a very poignant message about living your dreams, being yourself, and it includes some of the most delightful new songs to make their mark in the American musical theatre canon such as, "Monkeys and Playbills," "Die Vampire, Die," "Part of it All," and the touching ballad, "A Way Back to Then."

The production stars Florida Rep acting interns Julianne Avolio, Taylor Murphy Hale, Robert Mitchel Owenby and Hallie Wage. These young theatre artists all made their their professional debut with Florida Rep this season, and have spent the year working in many different capacities, but chiefly performing with The Children's Theatre Series and onstage in the Historic Arcade Theatre. All four were seen in Florida Rep's It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. Ms. Avolio was also seen in Florida Rep's hit season opener, Rumors, and Ms. Wage is currently appearing in A.R. Gurney's Black Tie.

The [title of show] creative team is made up Florida Rep's administration and production interns, including set designer, Scott Mason (marketing and administration intern), lighting and sound designer, Martin Gurganus (electrics intern), costume designer, Keller Anderson (costuming intern), scenic artist, Mandalin Paul (paint intern), and production stage manager, Tracy Hoida (stage management intern). This group of young professionals have spent their season working behind the scenes at Florida Rep in their field of expertise.

Florida Rep’s Associate Director, Jason Parrish, directs the production, and is joined by veteran music director, Justin P. Cowan. Parrish last directed the biographical comedy, Tru, in Florida Rep's Studio Theatre series. Cowan serves as the Artistic Director for the BIG Arts Herb Strauss Theatre on Sanibel, and most recently musically directed their productions of Das Barbecu and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels earlier this season.

[title of show] by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell plays in the Florida Rep Studio Theatre on Sunday and Monday, April 15 and 16, 20th, and 22nd at 8pm.  Contact theatre to verify show dates and times please.
