NEW THEATRE'S WORLD PREMIERE OF THE HOUR OF THE TIGER BY LOCAL PLAYWRIGHT SANDRA RILEY

New Theatre presents South Florida playwright and historian Sandra Riley's World Premiere of The Hour of the Tiger, where two women from different worlds struggle against tradition to find personal and artistic freedom.  This production marks Sandra Riley's first play produced at New Theatre.  Sandra Riley began her career fifty years ago as a drama teacher in Miami and director of plays at the Barn Theater in Miami Lakes, and Player's Theater in Coconut Grove.  In 1972, she worked on an Army Base in Japan teaching and directing at the Base Theater.

After returning to South Florida she took a hiatus from theater to do historical research in the Bahamas , which resulted in three novels.  Her documented book, Homeward Bound: A History of the Bahamas to 1850 is considered a definitive study of Bahamian history. An opportunity to return to theater came in 1990 when she created the first Theatre Arts curriculum for the International Baccalaureate program at Coral Gables Sr. High. In 2000, she began to write solo plays based on Bahamian historical figures among them are: Miss Ruby, Matt Lowe and Mariah Brown which are published in Bahamas Trilogy.

The Hour of the Tiger is directed by Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, with a cast that includes New Theatre veterans Kim Ehly and Christopher Vicchiollo joined by Gwendolyn Lai and Eric Miji, both making their New Theatre debut.  Returning to New Theatre are Production Stage Manager Dana Hesch, Costume Designer K. Blair Brown, Lighting Designer Travis Neff, Sound Designer Ozzie Quintana and Scenic Designer Yamarys Salomon and making their New Theatre debut are Norma Roque, choreography and Yoshiko Carlton, Japanese Consultant.
