On July 22, 2006 at 11:00 am, at the African-American

Research Library and Cultural Center

Broward County Commission's Cultural Division invites arts organizations and artists to a workshop: Becoming Who You Are: For New and Emerging Arts Organizations and Artists Groups, on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 11:00 am. It will be held at the African-American Research Library and CulturalCenter,

2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale
. If you are a manager or board member of a growing organization, this workshop is for you.

Designed to assist in successfully navigating critical junctures and market opportunities, the workshop will teach organizations to adopt a stage-based approach to capacity, and an investment approach to capital and financial growth.

Facilitator Diane Espaldon is principal and director of consulting for the LarsonAllen Public Service Group, where she is responsible for the Exemplar Program with the Animating Democracy program of Americans for the Arts and the Working Capital Fund. Becoming Who You Are combines the nonprofit "lifecycles training" with new framework for developing stabilization and operations with lessons learned through the Working Capital Fund Project.

Espaldon has been working with small to mid-sized arts and cultural organizations nationwide that are recognized for outstanding cultural work in their communities and in the field. The Working Capital Fund has helped mid-sized African-American, Latino, Native-American, and Asian-American arts groups build sustainable organizations that support their artistic and community missions. Animating Democracy and the Working Capital Fund are rigorous and groundbreaking programs and the Exemplar Program provided $2.1 million in awards to 12 small to mid-sized arts and cultural organizations nationwide.

There is no charge for this workshop. Register online at www.broward.org/arts and click on 'workshops,' or call 954-357-7457. Space is limited, so please RSVP in advance.
