West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio will be on hand to help celebrate as Palm Beach Dramaworks opens its new Diane & Mark Perlberg Studio Theatre with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 5 at 4:30pm.
Situated on the second floor of the Don & Ann Brown Theatre, the studio theatre will be home to The Dramaworkshop, PBD's lab for developing new plays. OnApril 8, PBD will present the first developmental production of The Dramaworkshop, Buried Cities byJennifer Fawcett. The studio is named after two of PBD's longtime financial supporters. Mark is also a Board member and former Chairman of the Board.
"We are delighted with the addition of this wonderful new space," said Managing Director Sue Ellen Beryl. "It's an important step in the growth of Palm Beach Dramaworks."
In addition to developmental productions, staged readings and workshops will also take place in the studio theatre. "The Dramaworkshop is now an integral part of our vision, and having a dedicated space to help cultivate new work underscores our commitment," said Producing Artistic Director William Hayes. The studio theatre can accommodate an audience of 35, and their feedback will be sought following performances of Buried Cities and future developmental productions.
The second floor of PBD's theatre has undergone extensive renovations, and now includes a dressing room and two new offices. To accommodate these changes, PBD now leases a 4,100 square-foot property to house its costume shop and rehearsal hall.
Palm Beach Dramaworks is a non-profit, professional theatre and is a member of the Theatre Communications Group, the South Florida Theatre League, Florida Professional Theatres Association, and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County.
Buried Cities will play a limited run of 12 performances; opening night, April 8, is already sold out. The schedule is as follows: Week one - Evening performances April 6-9 at8pm, matinee performances April 9 & 10 at 2pm. Week two - Evening performances April 14-16 at 8pm and April 17 at 7pm; matinee performances April 16 & 17 at 2pm. There will be a talkback and Q&A following each performance. Tickets for all performances are $25; there will also be $10 student rush tickets available at the door.
