The Garden Theatre, in partnership with Walt Disney World Resort, presents two free performances of Mariachi Cobre on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 8pm and 10pm at the Garden Theatre (160 West Plant Street). These performances celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place September 15-October 15 every year.

These Mariachi Cobre performances will overlap the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation's MusicFest, an annual outdoor music festival boasting over 30 different music genres that takes place on Plant Street in historic downtown Winter Garden on October 7-9.

A frequent performer at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot, Mariachi Cobre is an 11-piece band of trumpets, violins, three types of guitars, and beautiful voices who combine to deliver the warm, rich rhythms of Mexican folkloric music. Mariachi Cobre has shared the stage with such luminaries as Linda Ronstadt, Julio Iglesias, Carlos Santana, the Boston Pops, Los Lobos, Doc Severinsen, and are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. Randy Carrillo originally founded the group in 1971 along with his brother Stephen, and Mack Ruiz, who have remained with Mariachi Cobre since its inception. The other current band members are brothers Carlos and Pablo Héctor Gama, brothers Miguel and Israel Molina, Mário Trujillo, Roberto Martinez, Omar Olivas, and Arturo Pasalagua.

The efforts of the Walt Disney World Resort provided the opportunity for Mariachi Cobre to perform these special concerts at the Garden Theatre during MusicFest weekend.

"We're very thankful for the opportunity the Walt Disney World Resort has provided the Winter Garden community to experience such fine music," said Alauna McMillen, Managing Director of the Garden Theatre. "By celebrating Hispanic heritage with these concerts, our community is able to connect more closely together."

Free tickets for Mariachi Cobre may be claimed at the Garden Theatre during regular box office hours (Wednesdays-Saturdays) and during MusicFest weekend on a first-come, first-served basis. More details can be found at www.gardentheatre.org/concerts. For downloadable press photos of Mariachi Cobre, visit http://flic.kr/s/aHsjw5WTTy.

ABOUT NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for many Latin American countries. Mexico celebrates their independence day on September 16. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period. Find more information at www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov
