Daniel O'Donnell brings his trademark combination of country music, inspirational ballads, '60s pop and Irish standards to the VAN WEZEL PERFORMING ARTS HALL with special guest, Mary Duff, on Friday, February 18 at 7p.m.
The multi-talented, Irish-born performer
Daniel O'Donnell has starred in 10 national PBS television specials and sold over 12 million CDs and DVDs worldwide. He is currently in production with his 11th PBS TV special, to be taped in February at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The country-music themed special will premiere on PBS in August 2011. The singer's life is a fascinating tale of a journey to musical success-- O'DONNELL'S worldwide recognition is a far cry from his humble beginnings in the little seaside village of Kincasslagh, in Ireland's Donegal County. When he formed his own band, DANIEL quickly discovered that success doesn't come easy. After years of failed attempts he decided to make one final stab at stardom by putting what little savings he had into recording Johnny McCauley's popular hit, "My Donegal Shore," which he released independently as a single. Little did he know that the record was receiving substantial radio airplay and the "buzz" about this young singer had reached the ears of Ritz Records. The thunderous applause from 80,000 people at the 1985 London Irish Festival quickly assured him a record deal. True success came in 1987 when his second album, I Need You, hit the U.K. Country Album Charts. Finally, after years of hard work and grueling gigs,
Daniel O'Donnell has become a household name!
Daniel O'Donnell will be joined in concert by his long-time musical companion, the lovely Irish songstress
Mary Duff, and THE
Daniel O'Donnell BAND.
