COCONUT GROVE PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES NATIONAL STARS TO ATTEND 50TH ANNIVERSARY GOLDEN GALA

The Coconut Grove Playhouse announced that the legendary star of stage, film and television, Dick Van Dyke, will be honored at the Playhouse's 50th Anniversary Golden Gala scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Radisson Miami, 1601 Biscayne Boulevard. Mr. Van Dyke will receive the Playhouse's coveted Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award for his body of work. In addition, local public relations maestro, Charlie Cinnamon will be honored with the Playhouse Lifetime Community Achievement Award for his decades-long work in promoting Miami and its various cultural institutions.
To underscore the national prominence of the Playhouse awards and the Playhouse's milestone anniversary, CNN talk show host, Larry King, will fly in from New York to help honor both the Playhouse and the awardees.
"Having deep and wonderful roots in South Florida, I am delighted to return to honor the 50th anniversary of the Coconut Grove Playhouse. The Coconut Grove Playhouse, which in 1956 was the birthplace of the American premiere of Waiting for Godot, is arguably one of the finest regional theaters in the country. The honor is all mine to be able to present a Lifetime Achievement Award to the wonderful stage, film and television star Dick Van Dyke. It's great that Dick, Charlie and I are still working and will share a lovely evening together in honor of the Coconut Grove Playhouse," said King.
Honorary Chairs of the event are Mickey & Madeleine Arison (of Carnival Cruise line fame.) Individual tickets range from $500 to $1,000, and tables of 10 from $5,000 to $10,000. The historic Coconut Grove Playhouse, originally built as a movie house in 1926, includes two stages, the 1,100-seat proscenium Mainstage Theater and the intimate 135-seat Encore Room Theater.
