Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre's 30th anniversary season will close with a bang this summer, a "big bang" in fact. Back by popular demand, the company will reprise the hilarious hit musical comedy The Big Bang, with music by Jed Feuer and book and lyrics by Boyd Graham, now through September 2, 2018.
Check out the cast talking about the show in the video!
In this whirlwind musical, two comedy writers try to raise enough "dough" for the most historically expansive show ever conceived. Set in a borrowed Park Avenue apartment, this two-man circus runs through the entire history of the universe in a record 90 minutes. Playing all the roles and using the décor of the high-priced apartment to bring this over-the-top production to life, both actors will have their talents put to the test as they try to convince their potential theatrical backers (the audience) that this frivolity is somehow worthy of the largest cast, most expensive budget and the longest-running time of any known Broadway show.
Long on shtick and historical hilarity, The Big Bang was produced by Actors' Playhouse in 2003, and then again in 2005. The company is excited to have Ken Clement, a Carbonell Award winner and Actors' Playhouse veteran, return to reprise his critically-acclaimed role. Clement will be joined onstage by the incredibly talented Nick Santa Maria, co-author/composer/star of REAL MEN, the Musical which premiered at Actors' Playhouse in 2012 and played Off-Broadway. Both actors will play the roles of Adam and Eve, Attila the Hun, Nefertiti, Julius Caesar, Queen Isabella and Columbus, Napoléon and Josephine, Eva Braun, and several other historical figures as they sing and clown their way from creation to the present.
Directed by award-winning Actors' Playhouse Artistic Director David Arisco, the creative team for The Big Bang includes Scenic Design by Gene Seyffer, Lighting Design by Eric Nelson, Sound Design by Shaun Mitchell, Costume Design by Ellis Tillman and Properties Design and Set Dressing by Jodi Dellaventura. Much of the set dressing and properties featured in the show were the original conception of Carbonell Award-winning Costume Designer Mary Lynne Izzo.
"The Big Bang is one of the most popular and entertaining musicals that we presented in the early 2000s," said Arisco. "More people have asked for its reprise than any other show we have ever produced. We are so proud and pleased to bring it back funnier and more creative than ever before. It's pure summer fun!"
