CIRQUE DREAMS AND BLOOMINGDALE'S PARTNER IN ULTIMATE COSTUME CONTEST
ASPIRING DESIGNERS OF ALL AGES CAN SEE THEIR COSTUME SKETCHES COME TO LIFE ON STAGE DURING
CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY
AT THE KRAVIS CENTER JANUARY 8 – 13, 2008
Audiences across America are dreaming, drawing and watching their costume creations come to life in a unique competition that is taking their design drawings from the page to the stage in CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY.
Neil Goldberg, artistic director of the Fort Lauderdale-based Cirque Dreams musical theater production company, is the dream master behind the inventive, interactive concept. Goldberg is calling on people of all ages to submit sketches for CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY, the company's latest national touring production set in an enchanted forest- come- to-life filled with international Olympians, graceful aerialists, spine bending contortionists, vine swinging characters, dancers, musicians and more. CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY is presented by Stanford Broadway Across America – Palm Beach and Florida Theatrical Association and will play the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach January 8 – 13, 2008.
"We came up with this concept in an effort to engage people of all ages with an experience that can bring their own dreams to life, an opportunity I wish I had as a young daydreamer," Goldberg said.
Anyone wishing to submit a sketch of their own jungle theme costume idea can do so by sending an email to costumes@cirqueproductions.com and become eligible to have their entry selected. If chosen, the costume design team at CIRQUE DREAMS STUDIOS will interpret and manufacture the costume, premier it onstage when the show performs in their home city and make each winner the fashion toast of their town. Through a partnership with Bloomingdale's in South Florida, the grand prize winner will receive a $500 Bloomingdale's gift certificate and complimentary show tickets for the winner and their family on opening night January 8th to see CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY and their own costume come to life in the show. Original costumes from CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY will also be on display at Bloomingdale's Palm Beach Gardens and Bloomingdale's Boca Raton from November 30 - January 1.
Goldberg's call for creativity is already being met with resounding results. Submissions range from elementary classes and design school students to homemakers and senior citizen groups.
Amelia Howard from Columbus, Indiana submitted the first chosen design, selected from amongst hundreds. Howard, a freshman theater major at Butler University, Indiana called her design "Discovery-the primal woman in all of us discovering her beauty that she cannot see, as represented by light behind her." Howard's costume was premiered when CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY performed at Clowes Memorial Hall in Indianapolis on October 9, 2007.
Randal Tolbert, a 50 year old interior designer from Gastonia, NC, never designed a costume before in his life. When his design was selected and premiered at The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center on October 30, 2007 in Charlotte, NC, Tolbert said: "I wanted to stand up during the show and say hey…that's my design up there. Waking up the next morning and seeing my costume on the local television news was an added thrill and great surprise."
As CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY tours coast to coast, Goldberg is continuing the dream for many would-be costume designers and those who just love to draw.
Touring over 90 cities across America, CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY is a two hour, two-act, journey with an original score, accompanied by aerialists, contortionists, playful creatures, men of strength and daring balancers from around the world. CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY comes to life in a stage setting filled with an international cast of 25 awe-inspiring performers and musicians wearing over 150 costumes all ignited by striking visual effects.
CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY is the latest brainchild of Goldberg's theatrical imagination and Cirque Productions, creators of international performance and touring sensations Cirque Ingenieux, Cirque Dreams Coobrila and Cirque Dreams Illumination.
