Florida Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce the opening of 'Amelia Earhart' in its NEW and IMPROVED Lunchbox Theatre Series. Your heart will take flight with one of America's most beloved heroines in this exciting and touching play by Kathryn Schultz Miller.
Amelia Earhart plays on Jan. 21 and 22 at 11am in the Historic Arcade Theatre, and tickets are on sale now for just $12
The low $12 admission price includes the performance, a lunch from The Morgan House and a special post-show presentation by the Edison & Ford Winter Estates' own WILD WIZARD all about the Science of Flight."The Lunchbox Theatre Series got a makeover this season," said Florida Rep Education Director, Rachael Endrizzi. "Not only are we performing onstage in the Historic Arcade Theatre, but we have a new lunch partner, The Morgan House - and we've added a whole new component with an interactive workshop that will really enhance each child's theatre experience. We opened the Lunchbox Theatre Series in November to record breaking numbers, and we're very excited to bring Amelia Earhart to life for Southwest Florida audiences."
Written by the same author that brought us Florida Rep hits, Poe! Poe! Poe!, Laura Ingalls Wilder Voice of the Prairie and Florida Rep's own commission, Thomas Edison: The Fire of Genius, this thrilling play follows America's most legendary heroine. Outspoken, strong-willed and lovable, Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Set against the backdrop of 1920s and 30s America, the play allows us to experience Amelia's innermost thoughts, fears and dreams as she deals with sudden stardom and prepares for what will be her last flight. Just what did happen to Amelia Earhart?
Another new component to the Lunchbox Theatre series this season is a special Friday morning performance designed for schools, day cares or other groups that want to bring students to the theatre. In addition to the January 22 performance, Amelia Earhart will also be presented on Friday January 21. Both performances include the Morgan House lunch, a discussion with the actors and the Science of Flight presentation.
The production features Florida Rep's acting intern company, Megan Carr, Matthew Natale Rush and Rachel Swindler as well as returning company member, Adam Jones. These young theatre professionals will spend the season working with Florida Rep in many capacities, but chiefly with the Children's Theatre Series.
Florida Rep Education Associate Cklaire K. Guy directed the production, and was joined by an expert team of designers - all of whom are residents at Florida Rep. Chris Simpson, the company's technical director, served as the scenic designer, Roberta Malcolm, resident costumer, designed the costumes and Kate Smith designed the sound.
