TheatreZone Season 7 to "Light the Lights"

Four timeless, tap-dancing, compelling and thoughtful Broadway musicals selected for 2011/2012 season at G&L Theatre

Naples, FL: (May 6, 2011) . . . Light the Lights.

"In the theatre, we ignite the power of the arts to tell stories we all want and need to hear. Next season at TheatreZone, we are going to do just that," promises Mark Danni, founder and artistic director of TheatreZone, the not-for-profit, professional theatre known for its tradition of bringing the "lost treasures of Broadway" to Southwest Florida.

"Tell great stories. It's what we do," Danni adds.

Last night, prior to the opening performance of the Season 6 finale Beehive - the 60s Musical starring American Idol's Paige Miles, Danni unveiled his selection of four Broadway musical treasures that will be performed during TheatreZone's 2011/2012 Season 7 "Light the Lights."

The season opens with The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee - Dec. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 2011, 2012 @ 8 pm and Dec. 4 & 11 @ 2 pm and 7:30 pm - a funny, hip musical comedy where losers can be winners. Six adolescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime in the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

Company - Jan. 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 2012 @ 8 pm and Jan. 8 & 15 @ 2 pm and 7:30 pm - music and lyrics by the legendary Stephen Sondheim, this Broadway gem revolves around Bobby, a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage.

Little Women - March 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 2012 @ 8 pm and March 11 & 18 @ 2 pm and 7:30 pm - the beloved family classic soars on the stage as a powerful musical based upon Louisa May Alcott's 1860 semi-autobiographical novel. Its powerful score swells with the sounds of a young America finding its voice.

The season finale is The Boy Friend - May 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 @ 8 pm and May 6 & 13 @ 2 pm and 7:30 pm - sparkling British tap-dancing romp, set in the carefree world of the French Riviera in the Roaring ‘20s with its catchy tunes, period dances (including the Charleston) and a winning sense of humor. The Jazz Age lives on in this light romantic spoof that marked Julie Andrews' New York stage debut as English heiress Polly and turned her into an overnight sensation.

"TheatreZone continues to grow and bring to the stage a special combination classic and contemporary shows, which contribute immeasurably to the cultural life of our city," Danni says. "Our 2011/2012 schedule is a venturesome mix of timeless, tap dancing, compelling and thoughtful Broadways hits," he adds.

In 2005, non-profit TheatreZone was born on two concepts: an affinity and nostalgia for the stage, and for the intimacy of live audiences. Co-founders artistic director Mark Danni and his wife, actress/choreographer Karen Molnar shared a vision and a passion to bring equity professional actors, and produce talented and innovative productions of classic "lost treasures of Broadway."

Operating under the guidelines of the Actors' Equity Association and small professional theatres contracts, TheatreZone is in residence and performs in the intimate 250-seat G&L Theatre housed on the magnificent campus of The Community School of Naples, one block north of Pine Ridge Road at 13275 Livingston Road.

Over the last six years, TheatreZone has grown steadily and produced a total of 180 performances, including two world premieres, featuring more than 200 artists and played to audiences of nearly 40,000.

Season 7 tickets go on sale to the public June 1, 2011. Season 7 subscriber series (four shows) costs $182; a mini series (3 shows) costs $144, and individual seats costs $43 - $48 plus a $2 per ticket. Group rates (more than 10) are also available.
