Eric Hissom and Suzanne O'Donnell star in
Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of The Turn of the Screw,
running October 13th through November 7th.

Just in time for Halloween, Orlando Shakespeare Theater presents Jeffrey Hatcher's The Turn of the Screw, a thrilling adaptation of Henry James' classic ghost story.

As in James' original 1897 novella, The Turn of the Screw tells the story of an inexperienced governess left to care for two orphaned children at an isolated mansion in the English countryside. Shortly after her arrival, the governess begins to see visions of two malicious ghosts who seem determined to posses the innocents in her care. Resolved to save the children, she struggles to unravel the mystery of the ghosts' motives and discover the key to destroying their power.

Described by Stephen King as "the quintessential ghost story," The Turn of the Screw was originally published in serialized form and eventually became one of James' most famous works. James added a new spin to the traditional ghost story by writing it entirely from the governess' perspective, leaving the reader to interpret her account's accuracy and truthfulness. More than a century later, critical debate rages on over the nature of the ghosts, the complicity of the children, and the sanity of the governess.

The Turn of the Screw, begins previews on Wednesday, October 13, opens officially Friday, October 15 and runs through Sunday, November 7 in the Goldman Theater.

The Turn of the Screw features Orlando audience favorites Eric Hissom (Wittenberg, King Lear, Moon for the Misbegotten) and Suzanne O'Donnell (Merry Wives of Windsor, Comedy of Errors, Othello) and is directed by Orlando Shakes' resident artist, Anne Hering (Yankee Tavern).

An experienced production team joins the cast including Scenic Designer Bob Phillips, Costume Designer Denise R. Warner, and Lighting Designer Eric Haugen.
