"The Mixed Nut"

PRESENTED BY ATLANTIC DANCE THEATER

A MODERNIZED VARIATION OF THE CLASSIC HOLIDAY TALE, THE NUTCRACKER: LIVE ON DECEMBER 14-16 AT THE ATLANTIC THEATER

The Atlantic Dance Theater is proud to present, "The Mixed Nut", a variation of the classic holiday tale, The Nutcracker.  In this modern retelling of the classic story, instead of getting a nutcracker, Clara receives her first pair of pointe shoes which sets her off on a quest to become the best dancer in New York City.  On her way she meets a cast of New York characters who try to thwart her dreams.  The show contains Hip Hop, Jazz and Tap numbers as well as the traditional ballet.

The Mixed Nut takes place on Friday December 14th at 8pm, Saturday December 15th at 3pm and 8pm and Sunday December 16th at 2pm.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors and can be ordered by calling the Atlantic Theater box office at (561) 575-4942.

Act 1 Scene 1 opens with Clara complaining to her au pair about how little attention she gets from her parents.  In fact, they won't even listen to her pleas to be allowed to take dance classes.  Rex and Mimi, Clara's parents, enter to check on last minute preparations for the Holiday party they are hosting that evening.  Clara tries one last time to be heard about the dance classes but the guests begin to arrive and her parents must attend to them.  Everyone is busy dancing and enjoying themselves when Clara's slightly eccentric Auntie Zsa Zsa arrives bearing gifts.  Zsa Zsa presents two life size mechanical dolls for all the guests' entertainment.  Next she hands out MP3 players as gifts to the children and a very special gift of pointe shoes for her goddaughter Clara.  The party begins to wind down and the guests leave.  Clara decides that it's time to take matters into her own hands, packs a bag, grabs her new pointe shoes and takes off to find some dance classes.

In Act I Scene II, Clara finds herself in the Big City early in the morning.  The people are all very busy with their morning routines.  She finally finds herself away from the madness in a seemingly quiet spot when the vagrants and vagabonds make an appearance.  But never fear, the NYPD is on the job.  After the police have shooed away the vagrants, Clara finds herself alone and frightened but she continues on her journey towards the dance Mecca of the world.  The city is bustling with people trying to get to where they need to be and Clara finds herself once again terribly excited about what the future holds.

In Act II Scene I, Miss Gena's ballerinas appear to lead Clara up to "The Dance Center".  Here Clara meets the Prima Plum who introduces her to the " Land of Dance ".  Clara gets to watch all kinds of dance classes from the 10:00am tap class to the 3:00pm jazz class.  After all the dancers have welcomed her, they fade away and Clara awakens back in her own Palm Beach living room.
