New Theatre's World Premiere of The Mission wins BIG at the South Florida Theatre Festival closing night party.
As part of the Third Annual South Florida Theatre Festival's closing night party on May 12th, TheatreMania presented the 2008 South Florida Theatre Festival Audience Favorite Recognition and the Theatre League of South Florida presented the Silver Palm Awards to those who made an outstanding contribution to this year's South Florida Theatre Festival.
Audiences in South Florida got the opportunity to have their voice heard by voting online or by paper ballot at local theatres for their choice for audience favorite, sponsored by TheatreMania.com. South Florida Audiences voted New Theatre's World Premiere of The Mission by Jules Tasca as Audience Favorite for Miami-Dade County. The award carries a $350 award for free online advertising on TheatreMania.com.
The Theatre League of South Florida presented the Silver Palm Award for Outstanding New Work to playwright, Jules Tasca for The Mission and for Outstanding Performances to actor, Ricky Waugh for The Mission and for Two Sisters and A Piano at Promethean Theatre.
New Theatre is dedicated to the development and production of new works in South Florida and has brought the national premieres of more than 30 plays by early and mid-career American playwrights to South Florida, including New Theatre commissioned Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz, winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and The Steinberg Award, and Catherine Bush's Just A Kiss, which was both a finalist for The Steinberg and The Osborn Award in 2007, among others.
