Directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1954, Rear Window remains one of Hitchcock's most famous and celebrated films. Photographer L.B. Jeffries, played by Jimmy Stewart, is confined to a wheelchair in his apartment due to an accident. He passes the time by spying on his neighbors through his apartment's rear window. Things take a turn for the worse when he suspects that one of his neighbors has committed a murder. Grace Kelly joins Stewart in this nail-biting thriller that was nominated for four Academy Awards. The movie is 112 minutes (1 hour and 52 minutes) of suspense, romance, and intrigue.
Also starring Jimmy Stewart is Vertigo, the 1958 film that follows a San Francisco detective suffering from acrophobia who investigates the bizarre behavior of an old friend's wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her. Kim Novak and Barbara Bel Geddes also star in Vertigo, which is based on the French novel by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. This 128 minute (2 hours and 8 minutes) story was nominated for two Oscars and is considered by the American Film Institute as the #1 mystery movie.
In an ongoing effort to attract visitors and promote business activities within its service area, the City of Stuart Community Redevelopment Agency is pleased to partner with the Lyric Theatre in the sponsoring these free movies for the entire community.
