Tickets are on sale now for The 12, the world premiere of a new musical from 100 Years of Broadway creator Neil Berg with a story by Pulitzer Prize playwright and author Robert Schenkkan. The musical that begins where Jesus Christ Superstar left off will debut on Thursday, April 1 at 8 p.m. in the in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Blending theater with the high energy of a rock concert, The 12 follows the drama of how 12 ordinary individuals, torn apart by the unthinkable death of their leader, came together to create one of the most powerful movements ever known to mankind. Composer and lyricist Berg's original score pairs each apostle with a well-known, classic rock style referencing such icons as David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, U2, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.
The 12 features a live band and cast of Broadway stars and rock and roll performers including Rob Evan (Phantom of the Opera, Jekyll and Hyde), Danny Zolli (Jesus Christ Superstar), Lawrence Clayton (Jesus Christ Superstar, Dreamgirls, The Civil War) and Patti Russo (singer with the band Meatloaf ).
