11th anniversary season concludes
West Palm Beach's longest residing professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks, concludes its 11th anniversary season with "The Beauty Queen of Leenane," a dark comedy by acclaimed playwright Martin McDonagh on Friday, May 6th (8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard). Special priced preview performances are slated for May 4th (2PM & 8PM) & 5th (8PM) and the production will play through June 19th.
Set in the small Irish town of Leenane, "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" is a darkly comic tale of a lonely woman and the dysfunctional relationship with her mother. When Maureen Folan has her final chance at love with Pato Dooley, her manipulative mother sets to thwart the romance. Deceptions, secrets and betrayal are interwoven with moments of hope in this applauded play.
Dramaworks' Producing Artistic Director, William Hayes will direct the production featuring Barbara Bradshaw, Kati Brazda, Blake DeLong, and Kevin Kelly. The play will have scenery designed by Michael Amico, costumes designed by Brian O'Keefe, lights designed by Scott Wagmeister and sound designed by Matt Corey.
Award-winning writer and director Martin McDonagh has had a successful career in both film and theater, known for his dark humor and small town Irish locations. His film works, including the Academy Award nominated In Bruges, and Academy Award winning short film Six Shooter, are both examples of McDonagh's tradeMark Irish and dark comedy themes. His other works include The Lonesome West, The Pillowman, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and most recently, A Behanding in Spokane.
The performance schedule is as follows: Evening performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8PM; Sunday at 7PM; Matinee performances are on Saturday and Sunday at 2PM with select Wednesdays at 3PM. Please note: No 7PM performance on Sunday, May 8th & Sunday, June 19th.
Individual tickets are $47 for all performances. Student tickets are available for $10. Group rates for 20 or more, and discounted season subscriptions are also available.
The theatre is located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, at 322 Banyan Boulevard, between Dixie Highway and Olive Avenue, Florida 33401. The NEW official parking facility for the theatre is the City Center Garage located at the corner of Banyan Blvd. and Dixie Highway. Parking is offered across the street for a nominal fee, or in the City Garage on the corner of Olive Avenue and Banyan Boulevard for $1.00 per hour with the first hour free. Parking is free on Sunday, only in the garage and at city meters.
