Bhandari's presentation will include a lecture/talk - Ten Things Every Artist Should Know (an overview of the author's book: Art/Work- Everything You Need to Know (and do) As You Pursue Your Art Career); followed by a Question and Answer period and book-signing. The most comprehensive guide of its kind, Art/Work gives artists of every level the tools they need to make it in the very competitive world of art. Unlike other creative professionals, visual artists don't have agents or managers-they have to do it all themselves. This lecture is an effort to inspire questions and discussion on such topics as business basics, legal precautions, promotional tools, and career decisions such as choosing the right venue to show your work.
Heather Darcy Bhandari is the director of artist relations at Mixed Greens Gallery in New York City, where she has curated more than fifty exhibitions while managing and advising a roster of artists. Her passion and enthusiasm for artists has led her to curate independent shows and sit on the board of NURTUREart, a nonprofit in Brooklyn that gives opportunities to emerging artists and curators. Bhandari is an instructor at Brown University and a member of the New Art Dealer's Alliance (NADA), the College Art Association, and ArtTable. She majored in visual arts and anthropology at Brown University and received an MFA in painting from Pennsylvania State University.
The exhibition artists and its founding members, artists LeeAnna Yater, Virginia Fifield, and Jacklyn Laflamme, announced this exhibition which runs through February 23, 2011 and showcases outstanding artwork from well-known local artists such as Timothy Leistner, Bonnie Orbach, Lori Pratico, Elizabeth Reed, Terre Rybovich and Jennyfer Toplak, all AEI graduates.
