Set in Cuba in 1953, "A Bearded Lover" is a dark and heartwarming play about three eccentric sisters who are preparing for a long journey into the sea. Love and loyalty are tested; even the bond of sisterhood is challenged, pushed to the limit, and changed forever.

Juan C. Sanchez is the Resident Playwright of The Promethean Theatre. He studied theater at New World School of the Arts and Florida State University. His first play, Buck Fever, written as part of Downstage Miami, was originally developed by NY's Terranova Collective and produced at the Blue Heron Arts Center in 2004. Buck Fever received its World Premiere as part of The Promethean Theatre's second season, earning a Carbonell nomination for Best New Work in 2005. A collection of short plays was read by Promethean under the heading Back to School in 2006. Red Tide, also written as part of Downstage Miami and mentored by Leslie Ayvazian, was workshopped at the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis in 2007. Mr. Sanchez received another Carbonell Nomination for Best New Work and the play received the Best New Play Award of 2008 from the Broward New Times. Red Tide travelled to the Minnesota Fringe Festival in 2008. As part of The Naked Stage's yearly 24-Hour Theatre Project he has written Armed and Hammered; The Family Jewels; and Less Than Beautiful. His short play, Her Broken Heel, was part of The State Theatre Project's ‘Beer and Cigarettes.' His first Spanish play, Marea roja, was produced by Dream Theatre Productions in December 2010. Sanchez has served as a preliminary judge in the writing track for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) Young Arts program for the past 6 years.
