Ella Joyce will perform A ROSE AMONG THORNS which pays tribute to Mrs. Rosa Parks in hopes of not only keeping her story alive, and celebrating her exemplary character, but also seeking to infuse others (young and old,) with her spirit to seek social change, and to choose involvement with political and civic issues concerning us today. The one-woman show explores the "famous incident," but is driven to do so through Rosa -- the real person. Rosa was not only a woman with a quiet dignity, but a woman with a quiet fire who is fully human with emotions: strength, weakness, humor, triumphs; a real human being, not just an iconic figure.
A Rose Among Thorns will perform July 30, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
T'Keyah Live!
A True Variety Show, starring and written by T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh. This is a celebration of the diverse talent of actress T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh. The show includes witty repartee, musical numbers, endearing characters, audience participation, impressions, video presentations, jokes and a special guest.
"Uproarious… Marvelous… breezy, good-natured fun. In show business circles, a person who can sing, dance and act, the 'triple threat', is considered a cut above the rest. So what do you call a person who can sing, dance, act, write, impersonate, direct, produce and do comedy? Well, maybe there isn't a name for it, but T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh can do all of that and probably more." - The Winston - Salem Journal.
T'Keyah Live! will perform Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
Also appearing as part of the Festival are Florida Humanities Scholars Bob Devin Jones and Phyllis McEwen as Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston, respectively. The festival will offer storytelling, kids activities such as face painting, and the Stage Aurora 100 Youth Voices in Concert.
