The Aluminum Show, the global sensation making a stop at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 2, is a visually stunning and artistically innovative dance production that is a sparkling world of illusion and fantasy for the entire family.
Tickets to the show, at 8 p.m., are $30 -$45 (with a limited number of "smart seats" priced at $10).
Created by Ilan Azriel and featuring the music of Avi Belleli and Rafa Sofer, The Aluminum Show combines special effects, jazz and modern dance, acrobatics and puppetry all wrapped in an energetically shiny package. Reminiscent of Blue Man Group, Cirqué du Soleil and STOMP, the production positions the dancers inside giant, flexible silver tubes - creating visually interesting, often hypnotic tableaux.
Critics around the world have called The Aluminum Show "extraordinary," "exciting," "surprising," "stimulating" and "a magical adrenalin rush." BBC News called it "a phenomenally energetic performance which is truly sensational." The British Theatre Guide agreed, adding, "The Aluminum Show is one of the most innovative events of modern times."
The Aluminum Show is part of the Dance Series at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall this season. The series continues with The Martha Graham Dance Company (Feb. 3), The Israel Ballet (Feb. 11) and the Joffrey Ballet (Mar. 8).
