Surfside Players, Cocoa Beach, is proud to announce OPEN AUDITIONS for CATS, the immortal musical by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, directed by Rod Savickis. Based on the universally popular poetry in Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of the Jellicle cat tribe and the selection of one special cat to ascend to the Heaviside Layer. A true musical theatre phenomenon, CATS won the 1983 Tony Award for Best Musical and is the second-longest-running musical on Broadway (18 years) and fourth-longest on London's West End (21 years).

Auditions will be held Sunday and Monday, November 7 and 8, from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm on the stage of our playhouse in Cocoa Beach. We are looking for at least two dozen performers of all ages; these roles are for men and women who are skilled at crafting a character through dance and song. Please prepare an audition song from a different musical with an accompanying CD of the instrumental track. Please also wear comfortable clothing and shoes for the dance portion of the audition.

CATS auditioners may elect to also be considered for Surfside's annual Holiday Show, a production of songs and sketches for Christmas and the winter holidays, directed by Joan Dunn, which performs on December 10-19 (two weekends), Fridays and Saturdays 8:00 pm, Sundays 2:00 pm. Performers are able to be cast in both productions. Call (321) 783-3127 to arrange an alternate audition date if you only wish to be considered for the Holiday Show.

Performances of CATS are from January 14-30 (three weekends), with the option to add a fourth weekend February 4-6. Fridays and Saturdays 8:00 pm, Sundays 2:00 pm. Rehearsal schedules are slightly adjusted to accommodate performers' needs, but performers are expected to be available for every performance, plus the "Tech Week" beginning Sunday January 9 and brush-up rehearsals on Thursdays of performance weekends.

Presented by special arrangement with Rodgers & Hammerstein Theatricals and the Really Useful Group Limited. To get to Surfside from the mainland, take 520 or 528 Eastbound to A1A southbound; OR take Pineda Causeway or 192 Eastbound to A1A northbound. Drive into Cocoa Beach, and turn west on Fifth Street South. For more information call (321) 783-3127 or visit www.surfsideplayers.com.
