Caldwell Theatre Company 2008 Summer Season

Caldwell's earlier announced third summer comedy has been replaced by the political comedy Lying in State (see details below.)

Caldwell Theatre Company's 2008 Summer Season in its new Count de Hoernle Theater features three plays, including a "musical cocktail," an award-winning drama and the aforementioned political comedy.

James Hindman's Pete 'n' Keely kicks off Caldwell's Summer Season.  A reunion of America's "swingin' sweethearts" years after their much publicized breakup sets the stage for two pros who entertain with song and dance.  Carbonell Award-winner Connie SaLoutos stars as Keely Stevens.

Back by popular demand, Pulitzer Prize-winning Doubt, a Parable returns as Caldwell's second Summer show with its original cast that wowed critics and audiences alike when Caldwell premiered the four-time Tony Award-winner in South Florida this past December.

The comedy Lying in State closes Caldwell's Summer Season with swipes at politics and politicians.  Don't vote until you've seen Lying in State.

Special Summer Subscription Savings are available as are individual tickets.  Please contact the theatre for information.

Pete 'n' Keely

A Sparkling Musical Cocktail … On The Rocks

By James Hindman

America's swingin' sweethearts Pete Bartel and Keely Stevens reunite in 1968 for a live television special.  Their trip down memory lane evokes their musical career in Las Vegas, on TV and at the top of the hit parade.  But they haven't spoken in five years since their big breakup, and it's anyone's guess what sparks will fly when the two appear on stage.  Starring Carbonell Award-Winning Connie SaLoutos as Keely.  Rex Reed said that "Pete 'n' Keely is Broadway in a bottle – the brightest, happiest, and most entertaining little show in town."  New York Magazine's John Simon said that the show has a "stylishness and charm few if any of today's big Broadway musicals can begin to match," and Newsday's Gordon Cox said, "It'll knock your socks off!"

Summer Play #2

August 1 – August 17, 2008

Doubt, A Parable

Drama

By John Patrick Shanley

Back by popular demand.  Audiences and critics alike raved when Doubt opened Caldwell's Mainstage Season in its new theater this past December.  Returning with the celebrated cast from its South Florida Premiere at Caldwell, Doubt features Pat Nesbit as Sister Aloysius, Terry Hardcastle as Father Flynn, Pat Bowie (2007 Best Supporting Actress in a Play Carbonell Award-Nominee for Doubt) as Mrs. Muller and Amy Montminy as Sister James in this morality tale set in a 1964 Bronx Catholic School.  Winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards, including Best Play.  "Caldwell's Doubt casts an absorbing spell of uncertainty."  Sun-Sentinel review, December 11, 2007.  "Clashes of Doubt a fine debut for Caldwell's new home."  Palm Beach Post review, December 11, 2007.  "A Gem in our own Backyard."  Boca Raton Forum, December 19, 2007.

Summer Play #3

September 5 – September 21, 2008

Lying in State

Comedy

By David C. Hyer

Senator Ed shouldn't have been shooting at squirrels because the bullets ricocheted and he wound up dead.  Grievers who gather at the funeral parlor include his ex-wife, who Ed shot accidentally in the caboose, and his fiancé Buttons, a former exotic dancer.  Buttons also has a past with the Governor who comes to pay his respects.  With a host of characters who are hoots, this wacky comedy poses the question:  Shouldn't Ed run for re-election even though he's dead?  Don't miss this off-the-wall comedy, which skewers today's politicians and their advisors.
