The Lyric Theatre, located in the heart of Stuart, Florida, has announced their upcoming schedule will include Colin Hay on April 14th, Chita Rivera on April 15th and 16th and Kathleen Madigan on April 25th.
It has been over 25 years since Colin Hay and his band Men at Work topped the charts with hits like "Down Under," "Who Can It Be Now?" and "Overkill." Yet thanks to the frequent use of the songs on soundtracks (including the television show "Scrubs" and the film "Garden State"), they - and Colin Hay himself - are being rediscovered by new generations of fans. Since his time as lead vocalist and principal songwriter for Men at Work, Hay has enjoyed a successful solo career that spotlights his enduring and evolving talent. His shows intersperse classic and new songs with hilarious, poignant and downright surreal stories drawn from his spectacular three-decade long career.
Her name is synonymous with the best of Broadway. Chita Rivera has created such acclaimed roles as Anita in "West Side Story," Rosie in "Bye Bye Birdie," and Velma Kelly in "Chicago." The accomplished actress/singer/dancer has garnered a long list of recognitions, including two Tony Awards (for "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and "The Rink") and seven Tony nominations.
In "My Broadway," Rivera performs songs from her most celebrated performances, featuring the music of composers Leonard Bernstein, John Kander, Fred Ebb, Charles Strouse, Stephen Sondheim and Cy Coleman. You'll hear "America" from &! ldquo;West Side Story," "Where Am I Going?" and "Big Spender" from "Sweet Charity," "All That Jazz" and "Nowadays" from "Chicago," and many more.
The reviews speak for themselves. The New York Times raves, "Chita Rivera has a gleam in her eye, a smirk on her lips and a bounce in her step . . . you leave this show walking on air!" The Associated Press says, "Chita Rivera is more than a musical theater star. She's a force of nature," and the Los Angeles Times calls Rivera, "Shimmering show-biz perfection."
This very special retrospective featuring a true Broadway legend is a "must see" for musical theater fans of all ages.
Chances are you've seen Kathleen Madigan on one of her many television specials or guest appearances, such as "Last Comic Standing," "The Tonight Show," "The Conan O'Brien Show" and "Late Night with David Letterman." If you haven't, it's time you made her acquaintance. Madigan's razor sharp stand-up has earned her international fame and accolades from the likes of Lewis Black ("The funniest woman in America") and Jay Leno (One of America's funniest female comics"). She even defeated the ever-popular Larry the Cable Guy to win the 2007 Sirius Radio Comedy Cup. Madigan provides her comedic point of view as a special correspondent for "The Dr. Phil Show," and appeared as one of Cheri Oteri's clients in the AMC program, "Life Coach." Billboard magazine says, "Madigan's greatest strengths are her balan! cing of the cynical and approachable and her equal-opportunity antagonism." Get ready for a no-holds-barred evening of non-stop laughs!
