Long time Broadway babies, Tony® Award-winner Judy Kaye, direct from her Broadway stint replacing vacationing Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovett in SWEENEY TODD; Georgia Engel reprising her original role of Mrs. Tottendalein THE DROWSY CHAPERONE; and Christopher Cazenove and Lisa O'Hare, a team of brilliant actors reprising their roles of Professor Higgins and Eliza Doolittle respectively in the smash London production of MY FAIR LADY, will heat up the 2007-2008 theatrical season appearing in Stanford Broadway Across America – South Florida subscription series in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach presented by the Florida Theatrical Association.
First to arrive launching the 07-08 season at Kravis Center will be Lerner and Loewe's evergreen musical, MY FAIR LADY October 30 through November 4. Based on the Cameron Mackintosh/National Theatre of Great Britain's award-winning London staging, the show won five Laurence Olivier Awards, including Outstanding Musical Production. Following the Palm Beach run, the show will return to Miami for a December 18 through 23 run at Carnival Center for the Performing Arts' Ziff Ballet Opera House.
New Year's Day, January 1, 2008 will mark a major South Florida theatrical moment when both SWEENEY TODD starring Judy Kaye opens at Carnival Center's Ziff Ballet House for a one week run through January 6 and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE starring Georgia Engel opens for an exclusive 2-week run through January 13, at Broward Center's Au-Rene Theater.
One of Broadway's most celebrated musical comedy stars, Judy Kaye earned a Tony®Award for her work in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and went on to win another Tony®nomination for her recent appearance in SOUVENIR. In the late 1970s Kaye took Broadway by storm with her fabulous star turn, replacing Madeline Kahn, in ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. After stepping into SWEENEY TODD on Broadway for a vacationing Patti LuPone, Kaye will be reprising her role as Mrs. Lovett appearing opposite David Hess as Sweeney Todd,who was the standby by for Michael Cerveris. They will be joined by John Arbo (Jonas Fogg), Diana DiMarzio (Beggar Woman),Benjamin Eakeley (The Beadle), Benjamin Magnuson (Anthony), Lauren Molina (Johanna), Elisa Winter (Standby for Johanna and Pirelli) and Jessica Wright (Standby for Mrs. Lovett and Beggar Woman), who all appeared in the Broadway production of SWEENEY TODD. Also joining the cast are Edmund Bagnell (Tobias), Keith Buterbaugh (Judge Turpin), Katrina Yaukey (Pirelli), Edwin Cahill (Standby for Anthony, Tobias, The Beadle and Jonas Fogg), and David Garry (Standby for Sweeney Todd, Judge Turpin and The Beadle).
For Georgia Engel, it will be a return to the role of the ditsy Mrs. Tottendale she originated in the Broadway production of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. A beloved icon to all who recall her performances as Georgette in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" for which she received two Emmy nominations, Engel has most recently appeared as Pat McDougal in "Everybody Loves Raymond," for which she scored three Emmy Nominations.
The tour of the legendary Lerner & Loewe musical MY FAIR LADY will star acclaimed British theatre actors Christopher Cazenove and Lisa O'Hare, who earned rave reviews for their dynamic performances as, respectively, Professor Henry Higginsand Eliza Doolittle in the U.K. They will be joined onstage by Walter Charles as Colonel Hugh Pickering, Alma Cuervo as Mrs. Pearceand Justin Bohon as Freddy Eynsford-Hill . At some performances the role of Eliza will be played by Dana DeLisa.
