Boom is a discoteque converted into a theatre from 7- 9:15. It becomes a disco again at 9:30. This is Boom's first theatrical production and its first joint venture with the Rising Action Theatre Company.
Southern Baptist Sissies is about the hilarious and tragic effects the
church has on the lives of 4 gay men and their individuality and sexuality. It explores the need for tolerance and acceptance in the religious communities in a 'Jesus, Please protect us from your followers manner.'
Del Shore's plays are some of the most honored productions in Los
Angeles Theater, with over 75 awards; including Ovation Award for Best Play, Backstage West Garland, LA Weekly, NAACP and GLAAD Media Awards.. Currently, there is a retrospective of Del Shores Plays at the Zephyr Theatre
in Los Angeles. Del Shore wrote the play and movie Sordid Lives
(starring
Beau Bridges and Delta Burke) and the plays Daddy's Dying, Who's got the Will and The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Park Housewife. He also writes for the TV show Queer as Folk and has written for the TV Show Dharma and Greg.
Southern Baptist Sissies won the Glaad (Gays and Lesbian Against Defamation)
Media Award and the Backstage West Garland Award.
Southern Baptist
Sissies is planned to be made into a motion picture.
Southern Baptist Sissies received accolades from the press, i.e. "Daring,
heroic... no holds barred hilarious," LA Times and " an electric and erotic
tragicomedy," Frontiers.
Southern Baptist Sissies is being directed by Rising Action Theatre
Company's Artistic Director David Goldyn. New York/LA/Orlando Theatre Director
David Goldyn was the Artistic Director for NY Park's Shakespeare Company and Orlando's Acting Studio Company. He currently teaches theatre at
Broward County Community College. He has directed the highly acclaimed
L.A. Hit Stray Dog Story as well as the Orlando Premieres of Jeffrey, The Night
Larry Kramer Kissed Me, Ruthless and others for the Orlando Theatre Company and The Acting Studio Company.
The cast consists of Derrick Buford (actor at Hippodrome Theatre
including The Sisters Rosensweig--MFA Theatre University of Florida,) Jim Dudley (Daddy
Warbucks in Annie,) Harriet Bensman ( Memphis Actor Transplant - Memphis Theatre Award for Acting

( Queer Christmas Carol,) Dwayne Tuttle (Psycho Beach Party,) 79 year old Vicki Keller (renowned Florida Cabaret Singer and Choir Director) and 79 year old Jerry Layton (Ziegfeld Follies MC and Book Reviewer.)
