SOUTH FLORIDA LOCALS "TAKE THE STAGE"
IN LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE VARIETY SHOW
The Lake Worth Playhouse presents its first ever all-call-for-entertainers variety show on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. The show is called Take the Stage and features a variety of performers from South Florida, including vocal artists, musicians, dancers, stand-up comedians, magicians and a wise-cracking, whip-wielding balancing artist known as "Wonderfool."
Dozens of hopefuls auditioned before five Playhouse judges, and the top 15 acts were selected to perform in the show.
"We opened up the auditions to all of South Florida, inviting our community talent pool to show us what they've got," said Lake Worth Playhouse Artistic Director Jodie Dixon-Mears. "We knew South Florida had talent, but we were wonderfully surprised by the diversity of acts that came out to play!"
The Take the Stage artists will come together for one night only to claim their five minutes of fame on the Playhouse main stage for the October 11 performance. All proceeds will go toward operations for the not-for-profit community theatre, which launches its 2008-2009 season on October 24 with the Tony Award-winning musical Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Variety show audience members will be treated to a sneak preview of select musical numbers presented by the cast of Big River.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids under 12. Tickets to all performances and events are on sale now. Visit the Lake Worth Playhouse online www.lakeworthplayhouse.org or call the box office at 561-586-6410.
