Slow Burn Theatre Company and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts present the international blockbuster Jekyll & Hyde at the Broward Center Thursday, January 31 - Sunday, February 17.
Conceived for the stage by Steve Cuden & Frank Wildhorn, with book and lyrics by Oscar and Grammy-winner Leslie Bricusse and music by multi-Grammy and Tony nominee Frank Wildhorn, Jekyll & Hyde is an evocative tale of one man with divided desires and the two women who love him. Based on the story by Robert Louis Stevenson, the musical follows a devoted man of science, the kind and passionate Dr. Henry Jekyll, who is driven to find a breakthrough that can solve some of humankind's most challenging medical dilemmas. Testing his experimental treatments on himself, he accidentally unleashes his inner demons and transforms into the degenerate Mr. Hyde.
The Broadway production of Jekyll & Hyde was the longest running show in the history of the Plymouth Theater (now named the Gerald Shoenfeld Theatre). The show has seen three major tours and over 500 regional productions in the United States and Canada with more than 100 international productions across the globe.
Songs from Jekyll & Hyde such as "Someone Like You," "A New Life" and "This Is the Moment" have been featured at the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series and the World Cup. Jekyll & Hyde holds the distinction of being the first new American musical to have two internationally released concept recordings of the score, Highlights From Jekyll & Hyde and Jekyll & Hyde: The Complete Work, which were followed by 32 international recordings of Jekyll & Hyde in 28 different languages.
Tony Edgerton performs the title roles and is joined by Lindsey Corey as Emma and Carla Bordonada as Lucy. Other members of the talented cast are Matthew Korinko, Michael Cartwright, Stephen Hedger, Mike Dinwiddie, Landon Summers, J.R. Coley, Sahid Pabon and Michael Kreutz with an ensemble featuring Courtney Poston, Rick Peña, Cameron Jordan, Sara Grant, Erin Pittleman and Isabel Lopez.
Slow Burn Theatre Artistic Director Patrick Fitzwater directs and choreographs the production leading a creative team comprised of music director Paul Tine, scenic designer Michael McClain, costume designer Rick Peña, lighting designer Thomas Shorrock and sound designer Rachelle Hough.
Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International Jekyll & Hyde has orchestrations by Kim Scharnberg and arrangements by Jason Howland. The musical is intended for mature audiences.
