Slow Burn Theatre Company Presents ROCK OF AGES Image

For theater fans who "Can't Fight the Feeling" of longing for a summer show with hot music and dramatic fireworks, Slow Burn Theatre Company and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts are ready to turn up the volume with Rock of Ages, the hit musical with book by Chris D'Arienzo and arrangements and orchestrations by Ethan Popp. Performances take place in the Amaturo Theatre Thursday, June 14-Sunday, July 1.

Nominated for a Tony Award® for Best Musical in its Broadway debut and a fan favorite in its movie adaptation, Rock of Ages is an awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on. Slow Burn Theatre Artistic Director Patrick Fitzwater directs the story of a small-town girl and a big city rocker who meet in the most famous rock club on the Sunset Strip and fall in love to the greatest songs of the 80s.

Rock of Ages lives up to its name borrowing from the greatest hits of Night Ranger, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia and Whitesnake, among others, to feature "We Built This City," "We're Not Gonna Take It," "Waiting For A Girl Like You," "I Want To Know What Love Is," "Harden My Heart" and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot."

The talented cast features Cameron Jordan, Rebecca Diaz, Johnbarry Green, Stephen Rochet, Kristi Rose Mills, Clay Cartland. Ashelly Rodriguez, Matthew Korinko and Thomas Porat with an ensemble of Emily Tarallo, Christie Rohr, Meredith Pughe, Sahid Pabon, James Giordano and Elijah Word.

Providing the all-important rock and roll sound to the musical is music director Jeff Hess and a band with Hess on keyboard joined by two guitarists, a bass guitarist and a drummer.

The production boasts scenic design by Michael McClain, costume design by Rick Pena, lighting design by Thomas Shorrock and sound design by Rich Szczublewski.

Reviewing the Broadway production, Entertainment Weekly reported, "Even doubters will be wiping tears from their Wayfarers. Rock of Ages is the power-ballad decade in all its glory, tricked out with big perms, bigger dreams, and the kind of operatic ecstasy you read about only in bathroom stalls."

The performance may not be appropriate for children under the age of 14.

Rock of Ages is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The matinee performance on Sunday, June 22 is open captioned and features a text display located to the side of the stage that scrolls dialogue and lyrics synchronized with the performance. Open captioning at Slow Burn Theatre performances is made possible through support from the Theatre Development Fund.

Tickets are $47 - $60. Ticketmaster is the only official ticketing service of the Broward Center, Parker Playhouse and affiliated venues.
