Concert Series at Lake Worth Playhouse Opens with Sizzling Hot Latin Jazz on New Year's Eve


The Latin Jazz Project kicks off the 2008-2009 Lake Worth Playhouse Concert Series on Wednesday, December 31st at 8:00 p.m. The Concert Series returns for its second year at the Playhouse, with an even more diverse mix of sounds and styles to appeal to a variety of music tastes. The series showcases five local South Florida bands from December 2008 through April 2009. 

THE LATIN JAZZ PROJECT (December 31, 2008 - 8:00pm)         
The Playhouse New Year's Eve Celebration features The Latin Jazz Project, a nine-member band performing the music of Duke Ellington, Chucho Valdes and other Latin-Jazz greats. The most popular band from last year's Playhouse Concert Series, The Latin Jazz Project plays in a unique style that mixes hot Latin-Jazz, Afro-Cuban, and typical Cuban instrumental music, and has a knack for getting audiences up on their feet. The Playhouse New Year's Eve celebration includes hors d'oeuvres, party favors and a champagne toast.      

KLEZMAINIA (January 28, 2008 - 8:00pm)         
The January concert selection spotlights the distinctive sounds of a unique Klezmer band that combines the traditional with the new. Klezmainia performs a range of musical numbers from heart-rending ballads to exuberant wedding dances and is known for melodies and rhythms that skillfully mingle the flavors of East and West.
 

SWING 8N'T ALL (February 14, 2008 - 8:00pm)
Valentine's Day at the Playhouse features a romantic ambiance enhanced by the sounds of swing from the popular South Florida band, Swing 8n't All. Special guest vocalist, Roberta Rehner performs popular favorites, including Mack the Knife, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Moonlight Serenade, My Way and New York, New York. Audience members are treated to chocolates and roses in celebration of the romantic holiday.
 

THE LEGENDS OF DOO WOP (March 11, 2008 - 8:00pm)            
The Legends of Doo Wop are a well-known group harmony act that has played to standing-room-only audiences from New York to Los Angeles and throughout Europe performing popular favorites from the early days of Rock n' Roll. The band's members - Jimmy Gallagher (The Passions,) Tony Marsa (The Crests,) Frank Mancuso (The Imagination,) and Steve Horn (The Five Sharks) - have four songs in the Top 100 Greatest Hits listing, recently released by WCBS radio in New York.

BIG BRASS MACHINE (April 22, 2008 - 8:00pm)
The nine-piece jazz-rock band known as Big Brass Machine plays a varied selection of rock, funk, Motown and R&B favorites from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Their specialties include hits from Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chicago and Tower of Power.
 

Tickets are $25 per concert ($35 for New Year's Eve Celebration with The Latin Jazz Project) and can be purchase by contacting the Lake Worth Playhouse Box Office at 561-586-6410. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.lakeworthplayhouse.org. Group discounts and subscription rates are available. Visa, MasterCard and Discover Card are accepted.
